70% energy and CO₂ savings with completely fossil-free operation
An existing production hall should be heated and cooled year-round – without interventions in the building envelope, without work on the floor slab, and without production interruptions. With Kappa Kontherm™, a solution was implemented that reduces energy consumption and CO₂ emissions by about 70% while simultaneously creating stable conditions for production and employees.
Key figures
Project results at a glance
- 70% energy and CO₂ savings
- 100% fossil-free operation
- 0 days production interruption during implementation
The challenge
Many industrial companies face the challenge of energetically modernizing existing halls without intervening in the building structure or interrupting production processes.
In the present project, insufficient heating in winter and high thermal loads during the summer months led to increasing energy costs and limited energy efficiency. At the same time, the requirement was to implement a completely fossil-free solution that can be integrated into the existing infrastructure.
The solution
To implement this, Kappa Kontherm™ was installed. The system allows for targeted temperature control of the productive area of the hall and utilizes the heating and cooling capacity particularly efficiently.
The demand-oriented performance control responds dynamically to changing requirements and ensures stable conditions within the production hall throughout the year.
Energy is supplied via a decentralised Kappa Airon® HPI energy centre. This reduces distribution losses and enables the utilisation of available environmental energy and industrial waste heat. The entire operation is completely fossil-free.
Advantages of the solution
- Retrofitting in existing industrial halls
- No significant structural interventions
- Implementation during ongoing operations
- Year-round hall heating and cooling
- Fossil-free energy supply
- High energy efficiency
- Utilization of environmental energy and waste heat potentials
The result
The implementation fully achieved the defined project goals.
The new hall heating and cooling system reduces energy consumption and CO₂ emissions by about 70%. At the same time, the system operates up to 60% more efficiently than comparable solutions.
Furthermore, the entire system was implemented without production interruptions and without significant interventions in the ground or building.
The benefits for industrial companies
- permanently lower energy costs
- reduced CO₂ footprint
- higher energy efficiency
- fossil-free hall temperature control
- improved future security
- support for ESG and decarbonization strategies
- easy integration into existing buildings
The project implementation shows that existing buildings can also be modernized economically and sustainably without having to carry out costly hall renovations.
Project conclusion
The project demonstrates that modern hall heating and cooling can also be implemented economically in existing industrial halls. By combining intelligent power control and decentralized energy supply, energy consumption and CO₂ emissions have been significantly reduced without affecting production.
Kappa Kontherm™ provides the foundation for energy-efficient, fossil-free, and long-term economical temperature control of production and assembly halls.
