Energy-optimisation, that pays off – synchronisation of ventilation technology and production

Energy-optimisation, that pays off.
Synchronisation of ventilation technology and production.

Ventilation systems are often operated at their nominal capacity. However, full power is rarely needed during operation. This means excess electricity consumption and thus usually thousands in unnecessary operating costs. With the Kappa AirdynamicTM system control, it is possible to couple the air volume to the current production load. In this way, the ventilation system not only controls the air quality, but also the wallet, virtually on its own.

Changing process conditions, increasing performance, reducing operating costs, increasing system safety, improving system availability - there are many reasons for modernising a system.

Roland Brandl, who has been a project manager in the field of filter services for many years, doesn't just have the right answer for every system. But for each existing system he also has numerous suggestions on how the ventilation technology can be optimised even further. Whether it's a question of the right settings to reduce operating costs or about setting the right levers in motion to get more safety and comfort out of systems that have already been optimised. As an example, he cites the massive energy-saving potential obtained by a customer who adapted the system control to the current

production load: "In 2009, we installed our A.I.R.TM in-hall air cleaning system in a customer's welding hall. The system is continuously maintained by us and is actually in excellent condition. During our last inspection, however, the customer reported to us that the utilisation of production had changed drastically in the individual shifts. We then tried to assess the operating rate and to identify a need for services. With this data-based model, we were able to show the customer one thing: that a ventilation system based on current operating rate has considerable potential for energy savings."

The customer then hired Kappa to retrofit the Kappa AirdynamicTM system. It now permanently and automatically determines the emission load in the hall: if there is a lot of welding, the emission load increases. AirdynamicTM measures the operating rate via a sensor system and passes the information on to Kappa Zeromatic®. This control system automatically increases the air output of the in-hall air cleaning system. If less welding is currently taking place in the hall, the system also recognises the lower emission load and automatically reduces the necessary air output.

Save operating costs with Kappa Airdynamic

In this case, the retrofit of the Kappa AirdynamicTM system reduced annual electricity consumption by 470,000 kWh. Our experience shows that even savings in the six-digit kilowatt hour range are not unusual with Kappa AirdynamicTM. It is not uncommon for ventilation systems to be operated at their nominal capacity. However, full power is rarely needed during operation. This means excess electricity consumption and thus usually thousands in unnecessary operating costs. With Kappa AirdynamicTM, not only does the air quality control itself, but also the wallet, virtually on its own.
